RUNBACK
FGC MATCHMAKING APP
CHALLENGE
Due to the limited amount of matches a competitor is guaranteed to play in bracket, casual matches are an important part of the fighting game tournament experience. Professional players have an easy time finding practice thanks to their online followings, but the average competitor can struggle to find certain matchups.
SOLUTION
RUNBACK is designed to streamline the process of finding matches outside of the official bracket at fighting game tournaments. Through this platform, tournament attendees will have an efficient way to take advantage of the potential practice partners in their vicinity.
ONBOARDING PROCESS
For unregistered users, the onboarding process takes them through account creation, initial profile setup, and then to the event finder.
DISCOVER
Competitors can search for practice and filter results by game, match type, or characters they want to fight. They can then challenge the player to a friendly match.
HOST UP
Finding a match first requires someone to host. Players can set their preferred game, what type of match they want to play, and then wait for someone to challenge them.
MATCH CHAT
After a challenge is accepted, both users are taken to a match chat so they can discuss where to play. Messages are saved in the match chat tab to later reconnect with opponents.
PROFILE
Users that play multiple games can set their main and secondary characters for each separate title. Here users can also change their display name and social links.
THE BRAND
This app is a tool for the many players with competitive spirits who are constantly playing and improving. The name “RUNBACK” comes from the term used in the fighting game community to describe a rematch.
STYLE
Reducing the amount of type sizes, buttons, icons, and colors is important as it allows for consistency and an easier developer handoff. The dark nature of the app is easier on the eyes for those who look at screens for long periods of time.
